Blast & Impact-Resistant Doors

Blast resistant doors offer powerful protection against explosions and combustion. Designed for high-risk areas, blast doors significantly lower the threat of life-threatening damage at government buildings, military installations, and industrial sites, such as refineries and chemical plants.

However, continuous use can wear down critical parts. Without a reliable service and repair program, operational problems may develop that hinder your doors’ effectiveness. Inspections and maintenance are crucial for the safety and security of your staff and facility, both to avoid expensive repairs and to ensure your doors are ready in the event a blast occurs.

Vortex technicians provide preventative care for all your doors’ key elements, including:

Hinges

Heavy use, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and inadequate lubrication can cause hinges to become stiff, loose, and corroded. Misalignments can lead to sagging or prevent doors from closing properly. Accidents, impacts, and overloading can create even larger problems with fit and function. To prevent these issues, Vortex service teams are trained to:

  • Check hinges for signs of wear, misalignment, and damage.
  • Lubricate hinges to ensure the open and close smoothly.
  • Tighten bolts as needed to make certain hinges are securely aligned and fastened.
  • Remove dirt, dust and debris that could interfere with movement.
  • Replace hinges that show signs of corrosion, damage, or excess strain.

Seals

Exposure to impact, weather, pollutants, harsh chemicals, and extreme temperatures can cause seals to become worn and brittle. Repeated compression can lead to deformation or cracks, opening up gaps around the door that allow air, water, and gas to seep in. Age also takes a toll. Old seals are less flexible and resilient, jeopardizing their ability to block outside elements and debris. Vortex proactive maintenance teams help catch these problems before they compromise your doors’ essential function by:

  • Regularly inspecting seals and gaskets.
  • Removing dirt, grease, and contaminants from the door seal, in order to prolong its lifespan.
  • Upgrading or replacing worn parts, to ensure the door acts as an effective barrier.
  • Making sure gaskets are properly aligned with the door frame.

Structure

Moisture, pressure, and repeated stress can seriously undermine your door’s integrity. Corrosion can damage latches, pins, bolts, and sheeting. Because doors transfer blast pressure to the walls, any deterioration around the frame may lead to failure at the critical moment. In order to ensure your doors are capable of withstanding explosive impacts, Vortex staff:

  • Inspect door frames for cracks, bends, or dents which could impair its performance.
  • Check to make sure the door fits properly with the frame.
  • Look for signs of rust or corrosion in the door panels and hardware.

Operation

Regular testing makes sure blast doors are operational when needed. After inspecting each component, Vortex technicians measure the safety, functionality, compliance, and reliability of your doors by:

  • Opening and closing the door to ensure it moves smoothly, without difficulty, catches, or obstructions.
  • Making sure the locking mechanism engages correctly when the door is shut.
  • Checking to see whether there is a tight seal around the edge of the door.
  • Activating any security features, such as keypads or electronic locks, to be certain unauthorized visitors can’t access restricted areas.
