Challenge
The hangar door had endured years of exposure to humidity, salt air, and tropical weather.
Rust had compromised the rollers and tracks, making the door so difficult to open that it required two to three people to operate. This was especially problematic because the hangar housed local emergency response aircraft, where quick access is critical.
Solution
After being contacted through the customer’s internal company directory, Vortex conducted a virtual job walk via FaceTime to assess the scope of work. Once approved, our crew traveled to the Cayman Islands for the restoration.
The project included:
- Replacing severely corroded rollers and track components with new, high-quality parts.
- Adjusting and fine-tuning the door system to ensure smooth, one-handed operation.
- Applying a specialized corrosion-resistant polyurethane paint to the bottom track for long-term protection.
- Adding cane bolts at full open to prevent the doors from closing due to wind.
