Edge of Dock Levelers

edge mount dock leveler

Edge of dock levelers bridge the gap between truck beds and dock floors, creating a smooth transition for forklifts, dollies, and other loading equipment.

Unlike other levelers, which are installed within a pit in the dock floor, edge mounted levelers are installed on the edge of the dock surface and extend out to meet the truck as it backs into the loading bay.

Due to the weight of the cargo they're required to support, edge of dock levelers experience an incredible amount of wear and tear. In order to ensure efficient operations, Vortex service teams check and repair your leveler’s critical components. Regular inspections allow us to address issues proactively, before they lead to major damage and disrupt the flow of goods in and out of your business. Our training and experience allow us to respond promptly to common maintenance issues, including:

  • Lip Malfunctions: The retractable lip allows the leveler to maintain firm contact with the truck bed. Bent or misaligned lips create an obstacle, preventing traffic from moving smoothly and safely in and out of the truck.
  • Corrosion: Prolonged exposure to rain and humidity can lead to rust, weakening the leveler’s metal components and preventing it from extending and retracting as intended.
  • Lubrication: Regardless of whether your leveler is operated mechanically or electrically, regular lubrication is necessary to keep parts from seizing up. Poor lubrication can also lead to increased friction and wear, slowly grinding down internal components.
  • Impact Damage: Levelers can suffer significant damage when struck by trucks, forklifts, or heavy loads. Bent or broken components can severely compromise the system’s constituent parts, increasing the risk of an accident or causing the leveler to fail entirely.

Great work. Communicated the entire process. The door so far looks to be working great, so happy to have the space at the bottom no longer be there because the bugs and debris was getting into the office. Thank you!
