Commerce is located in southeast Los Angeles County with a population of 12,830 people. It has an interesting history as well as its own local flavor of culture.
The city was founded on September 27th, 1887 by railroad developer Henry Epperly, just outside of Downtown LA. He envisioned constructing a hub town for railroad lines coming from east to west across Southern California towards Arizona or Oregon. These railways carried not only passengers but freight in a new way that could be hauled without breaking bulk into smaller pieces.
